Meet Ljh counselling
In counselling, I offer a safe space for people to explore their challenges and work with me towards healing.
My client-centred approach means that I am led by you in discovering what we work on and how. Feel assured that if you don’t feel completely clear about this yet, I will guide you towards this and will take the lead in the beginning to help you find this out.
I provide general counselling for a wide range of issues including anxiety, depression, work-related and other forms of stress, relationship issues (although not couples counselling), substance misuse, trauma, grief and loss.
Additionally, I have training and experience conducting Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy for trauma, conducted via structured video sessions.
confidential
I take confidentiality seriously, ensuring your information remains private. Your details are securely stored on Halaxy, a trusted system. Our sessions stay confidential, with exceptions only if a life is in danger.
affordable
I believe that quality mental health support should be accessible to everyone, which is why we offer affordable services without compromising on the level of care and attention you deserve.
supportive
I pride myself on being compassionate and supportive in what is often a difficult process. The feedback I receive from clients very often includes comments around the sense of safety they felt during our sessions.
convenient
To make my services as accessible as possible (and as affordable as possible), we offer convenient telehealth options, allowing you to receive the same high-quality care from the comfort of your home, your office, or another setting that gives you privacy.

how I help
TRAUMA
Since the beginning of my career as an alcohol and other drug (AOD) counsellor, my work has been trauma-informed. This underlying framework considers the experiences that we have had in life and how they have a lingering impact on our thoughts, feelings, and behaviour. I make sure I provide a safe and empathic environment for you to process these experiences if you choose to.
I tailor my approach to each individual so it can involve a variety of evidence based approaches – talking about the experiences and/or how it impacts you today so that you can gain a different perspective and understanding about it, tools and strategies to help the nervous system adjust, and even EMDR therapy that has been shown to be highly effective in the treatment of trauma of all kinds.
SUBSTANCE MISUSE
As mentioned my career started in this field so it is another of my professional specialties. My approach is non-judgemental and compassionate and this is to allow for exploration of this sensitive and sometimes shame laden topic.
We can discuss what your goals are and work towards them, whether this is complete sobriety or harm reduction. I can provide the tools that will allow you to feel empowered in this process and work as a guide alongside you.
ANXIETY & DEPRESSION
Anxiety and depression are two of the most common mental health concerns experienced by people and they often go hand in hand. While I am experienced in a wide range of issues, I could say that these are perhaps a specialty of mine having through over a decade of working with people through them.
I have had to develop this specialisation further, through my own lived experience. I can help you to develop tools to manage the symptoms while building resilience and exploring the root causes of these conditions.
STRESS & BURNOUT
About half of my career has been as an EAP clinician which involves support for employees through a wide range of work related or personal issues such as bullying experiences, redundancy, trauma, loss of a loved one, mental health conditions and more.
It is probably not hard to imagine that stress and burnout are another of the two most common issues that I have supported people through. We can explore the circumstances leading to the stress and work towards restoring balance and a sense of control.
I’ve been receiving counselling from Leigh for nearly three years. He’s an insightful listener who’s been there for me through good and bad days, asking the right questions to help me think clearly. His support and guidance, backed by his knowledge and experience, have helped me navigate tough times. I’m always grateful for the peace of mind he brings. Thank you, Leigh!
